An examination of your movement will be performed and any orthopaedic or neurological testing required.

Treatment will involve passive and active movement, soft tissue releases and manipulation if indicated and agreed upon by the patient. Please note, not all treatments will include manipulation.

X-rays, MRI’s, CT & ultrasound

If you have any previous relevant investigations/imaging, please bring these along with the attached report.

You may be referred for imaging if clinically indicated. There are no routine x-rays performed as part of treatment.

Is osteopathic treatment painful?

If your area of concern is painful to touch or move, treatment to this area may cause some pain or discomfort. We will aim to minimise any pain during treatment to make you as comfortable as possible, although typically clients may feel some tenderness during treatment.

It is common to feel some soreness/tenderness for 1-2 days following treatment due to the movement and releases provided during treatment.

If pain persists or is unmanageable, please contact us directly for further advice.

How many appointments will I need?

This varies with each individuals concerns and needs. For injuries, treatment may be needed more frequently to begin with, then less frequently as you improve. Ideally, your concern improves to a point of not requiring treatment. This is often within 3-6 treatments.

Some ongoing concerns, postural complaints and pathologies may be better suited to ongoing management, such as monthly appointments.

Clients are typically encouraged to use home management and exercise to help reduce the amount of treatment required.
